OFFICIAL RULES OF THE 2025 TRANSITION TRUCKING: DRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE AWARD
Eligibility for Nomination:
To be eligible to be nominated for the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award (the “Award”), a Nominee must:
1. Be a legal resident of the continental United States;
2. Be a military veteran/prior service or a current or former member in the National Guard or Reserves;
3. Have graduated from a PTDI-certified, NAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school, any Career Skills Program on a base and/or at any trucking company with a Registered Apprenticeship program, and be a current CDL holder;
4. Have been employed by any for-hire carrier or private fleet that has pledged to hire veterans.
5. Was first employed as a CDL driver after January 1, 2024.
6. Agree to all of the Award Rules
Employees, officers and directors of Sponsors and any affiliated entities, and their respective immediate families (parents, spouse, children, siblings) or individuals residing in their household (whether or not related) are not eligible Nominees.
Nomination Procedure:
Nominations may be made by any for-hire carrier or private fleet employers, training organizations, the general public and/or other interested parties using the nomination form on transitiontrucking.org beginning March 31, 2025. Nominations will be valid only if the form is fully completed and submitted online any time before 5:00pm EDT on June 24, 2025 via the Jotform located on transitiontrucking.org.
Criteria for Selection of Preliminary Finalists:
An independent Selection Committee, including representatives from motor carriers, driver training schools, suppliers and trade associations, will choose preliminary Finalists from among all eligible Nominees.
The criteria the Selection Committee will use to evaluate eligible Nominees to select the preliminary Finalists are the eligible Nominee’s:
Essay questions provided in the nomination packet
Work record
Military service record
Non-job related activities/community service
Availability for loads
On-time delivery
Highway safety performance
Customer relations
Odds of being named a preliminary Finalist depend on the number of eligible Nominees received on or before June 24, 2025.
Nominators and Preliminary Finalists will be notified on or before August 5, 2025 through the contact information provided in the Nomination.
Preliminary Finalists will need to enter into a Preliminary Finalist Agreement confirming their eligibility for Nomination, confirming that they will supply information as to their qualifications, including but not limited to proof of license and driving record, to the Selection Committee, as requested, and otherwise representing that they have read and understand the Award Rules and agree to the terms and conditions of the Award Rules, within fourteen (14) days of notification. If such notification cannot be made or the Agreement is not executed and timely returned, the Selection Committee will be free to nominate another preliminary Finalist until there are preliminary Finalists who meet these requirements in the Selection Committee’s and Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Selection of Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award Winner and Runners-Ups:
Preliminary Finalists must agree to attend the Salute, and confirm and supply information as to their qualifications, and otherwise abide by the terms and conditions of the executed preliminary Finalist Agreement and the Award Rules. In addition, each preliminary Finalist must submit a complete preliminary Finalist submission, which will include a video profile and proof of driving record, and a Qualifying Photograph.
Each preliminary Finalist will be recognized during the Salute. Preliminary Finalists must be present at, and participate fully in, the Salute to be considered for the Award or the Runners-up prize.
Each preliminary Finalist will provide a video recorded and/or written interview that includes various photographs to be furnished by each finalist, which will be used to create profile videos to be posted on http://www.transitiontrucking.org from November 1 – November 11, 2025.
The public will have the opportunity to recognize their favorite preliminary Finalist through an online vote on who the public believes should win the Award. The voting will open at 12pm PDT / 3:00 EDT on November 1, 2025, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on November 11, 2025. The public vote will not directly determine the Award Winner or the Runners-up.
One Award Winner and Runners-up will be selected from among the eligible preliminary Finalists by the Selection Committee based on:
The video profiles of the preliminary Finalists;
The completed submissions by the preliminary Finalist, which will include evidence of driving records; and
The public voting.
The Award Winner and the Runners-up will be announced at a ceremony at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC, on Friday, December 12, 2025, depending on travel bans or restrictions.
Prizes:
The Award Winner will receive:
A round-trip economy class airline ticket to award announcement location from the winner’s legal residence in the continental U.S. to attend the Award ceremony; value depends on flight departure location;
Two-night hotel stay near the announcement location;
A 2025 Kenworth T680, with an MSRP of approximately $155,000.
Each of the two (2) Runners-up will receive:
A round-trip economy class airline ticket to award announcement location from the runner-up’s legal residence in the continental U.S. to attend the Award ceremony; value depends on flight departure location;
Two-night hotel stay near the announcement location;
$10,000.00 in prize money.
Note that the travel-based elements of the awards are dependent on lifted travel bans and restrictions. If travel bans or restrictions are in place, in-person events are subject to cancellations and changes to a virtual events.
If there is a final 4, the 3rd and 4th place winners will split the $10,000 prize and receive $5,000.00 in prize money respectively. Any additional finalists will receive $5,000 in prize money respectively.
Award Winner, Runners-up and preliminary Finalist names, and state of legal residence, will be available after December 12, 2025 at U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Hiring Our Heroes, 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20062 for a period of two months.
General Rules:
All applications must be submitted online. Only those applications submitted through the online application process provided on transitiontrucking.com/nominate will be accepted. This application process will take place through Jotform on transitiontrucking.org. Applications received by any other means will not be considered. No application can be individually acknowledged, returned or withdrawn after submission. Neither Sponsors nor their parents, affiliated entities or agents, are responsible for any illegible, lost, stolen late, damaged, incomplete, mutilated or misdirected Nominations or other documents. Nominating party and Nominees are responsible for ensuring proper contact information has been submitted and is maintained throughout the Award contest to allow communications about the Award contest.
Any for-hire carrier, private fleet, driving training school, or other interested party may nominate up to five drivers; however, only one driver per employer or training organization can be named a preliminary Finalist.
If a driver is part of a Team, only one member of the team is eligible to be nominated.
Erroneous or false information provided in the application will result in immediate disqualification of the Nominee. Sponsors and the Selection Committee otherwise retain the right to disqualify any Nominee in their sole discretion.
If, for any reason, the Award contest is not capable of running as planned, Sponsors reserve the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest at any time.
By making a Nomination, or by being a Nominee, you understand that there is no joint venture, partnership, employment or agency relation between you and Sponsors arising from any nomination, Prize or Award.
Preliminary Finalists, Runners-up and the Award Winner are individually responsible for payment of all applicable local, state and federal taxes. Preliminary Finalists, Runners-up and the Award Winner will be required to submit taxpayer identification information and any other information required for the reporting of any Award, Prize Pack or other payments made as Prizes or Awards as part of this contest.
Preliminary Finalists must furnish a digital photograph (of a quality not less than 300 dpi) featuring the entrant’s head and shoulders and taken within the last year (“Qualifying Photograph”). Qualifying Photograph must be submitted as part of the preliminary Finalist’s application.
The Preliminary Finalist Agreement requires that each preliminary Finalist grant permission to Sponsors to use the Qualifying Photograph, name, likeness, statements, biographical information, including city and state of residence, and the submitted Application information in perpetuity, worldwide, royalty fee in any and all media now known or which may be developed in the future to promote the Award and the objectives the Award seeks to further.
The decisions of the Selection Committee are final, and Nominees and preliminary Finalists specifically agree that the decision of the Selection Committee and any decision of Sponsors is not subject to review or appeal in any forum whatsoever, including courts of law.
NO WARRANTY OF ANY TYPE IS PROVIDED FOR ANY PRIZE. NO CASH VALUE IS PROVIDED FOR ANY PRIZE, AND NO PRIZE MAY BE TRANSFERRED TO ANY PARTY.
Any information provided as part of this Contest is provided according to the website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, as they may be amended from time to time, and as otherwise provided for in these Rules.
By making a Nomination or being a Nominee, you agree on behalf of yourself and each of your respective heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives, agents, successors and assigns (“Releasing Party”) to the Award Rules and the decisions of the Selection Committee and Sponsors, as applicable, and any affiliated entities or persons, and by making a Nomination or being a Nominee, you release, defend and hold harmless Sponsors, and their affiliates, advisors, agents, licensees, and any social or other media used for the Award, and individuals on the Selection Committee, and any of their respective officers, directors and employees as applicable (“Released Parties”), from any and all causes of action, suits, debts, dues, sums of money, accounts, reckonings, bonds, bills, covenants, contracts, controversies, promises, lost profits, indirect or direct damages, consequential damage, incidental damages, punitive or exemplary damages, judgments, claims and demands whosoever, in law, or equity, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, which any Releasing Party has or may ever had, now or hereafter, arising from or related to the Award contest, these Official Rules, any Nomination materials, including but not limited to any use or non-use of any Nomination materials, delivery, misdelivery, acceptance, possession, attendance at, travel related to, misuse, and/or use of or inability to use, any Prize, or technical or other failures of any kind.
